Pickleball Chicago – Where to play

Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island near Seattle, Washington, and is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. The sport is the fastest growing in the United States, and it is a sport that combines two things: badminton, from which the pickleball originated in 1960, and the game, from which the sport takes its name.

Singles and doubles matches are played on a court with slightly modified tennis nets, which are often 20 to 44 feet tall, like a tennis court. Doubles are more common, then the shots can be one – bounce-volley tennis and the serve and return serve bounce off each other.

Chicago & the neighboring communities together have more than 2,000 pickleballers and more than 1,500 players a year. There are plenty of organizations including RFTC has participated in the IHSA Division II National Championship three times and won a total of 17 IhSA National Championships.

During the winter season, pickleballers can play in the indoor tennis and fitness centre in the Eichenpark. In 2016, a $1,000 grant from the Chicago Parks and Recreation Department included the remodeling of two pickup ball courts. Pickleballs are essentially free, with a $5 fee for adults and $3 for children under 18.
